Reel Knights Take 3rd Place at FLW College Fishing Event on Lake Okeechobee

On February 27th, 2010 two teams from the Reel Knights Fishing club at UCF headed to Clewiston, FL to compete in an FLW College Fishing Regional Qualifier on famed Lake Okeechobee. The competition was met with questionable weather and heavy fishing pressure but the team of Len Gordon and Miles Burghoff made the right adjustments. Len and Miles finished the one day tournament in third place with a total weight of 9lbs 14oz. There day was spent covering as much water as possible in the Monkey Box area throwing skinny dippers and flipping reeds. Their success netted $4000 for the 3rd place finish. Half of that money will go directly to the University of Central Florida and the other half will go to the Reel Knights Club. The Reel Knights second team of Scott Stone and Curtis Schneider finished in 26th place with 2lbs 7oz. They had a tough day and could not get the bites to make it into the coveted top five. The top five teams at each regional qualifier will earn a spot into the Southeastern Regional. The location of this Regional is to be determined but Len and Miles are up for the challenge. The Reel Knights have started off this season much like they did last season when the club’s only team at Lake Okeechobee finished in 5th place. That team of Matt Norman and Dustin Lauer then went on to finish 4th at the Regional Championship and are scheduled to fish in the National Championship in April.

This brings the Reel Knights FLW College top 5 finish count to 3 in only 4 events. The other event was a 10th place finish on Lake Guntersville last October.
