So as some of you know Miles and I are fishing the Accent Marine Tournaments this year.  Pat and his dad are also fishing them.  Miles and I were very excited as the full moon was yesterday so we'd hoped the fish would be biting today.  Well we were right.  We pretty much push polled and trolled through flats today trying to target pre-spawn bass.  We decided to take two approaches.  Miles threw skinny dippers while I was throwing soft plastic toads.  Well Miles started out catching some smaller 1-2 lb bucks.  I hadn't gotten a bite on my toad for about 30 minutes.  Then all of a sudden, WHAM... a 3.5 pounder annihilated my bait.  So we were pretty stoked to start the morning off right.

We continued on the same trend.  Miles continued to stroke up smaller bucks, some meeting the 14 inch limit (because Accent Marine is 6 fish limit with 14 inch minimum length) and some not.  There was a lot of fish waking the bait and knocking it around, but not fully taking it in.  About an hour of that went by and then Miles had a nice size one bump his skinny dipper around on 2 or 3 casts.  He finally gave up and moved on.  I decided to throw my toad in there for a different approach.  On the second cast through the spot... a 5 pounder engulfed my bait.  So although I was not getting as many bites on Miles they were all quality bites.  For the remainder of the day Miles and I both boated several smaller fish (prob around 30 or so).  Then with 10 minutes of fishing to go before we had to start heading back Miles boated a 6 pounder with a poppin frog.  We were extremely happy, packed up and hauled ass back to the weigh in with about 4 minutes to spare.  (talk about cutting it close).

We ended up taking 3rd place out of 81 boats with 19.20 pounds.  2nd place was 19.75 pounds, while 1st was 25 pounds.  We were extremely happy to finish 3rd as we worked very hard all day in the cold wind and cloudy conditions.  This was my personal best tournament finish which was awesine.  It was a great day on the water.

and we didnt do anywhere near that good.  Embarrassed

we decided to stay on Kissimmee and not go to cypress...

the wind kept us working hard all day, but the stick it anchor pin came through several times when we wanted to stay put.

i had 6 fish wake up and knock the crap out of my bait early, but they never fully ate.  I got alot of skinny dippers back that were missing their tails.  I was letting them eat it for 3-5 seconds (which seems like 20 minutes.)  one of those wakes was pushed up by the biggest fish i've ever seen waking in shallow water.  it was pushing water like a jetski.   still, it only ate the tail.  i swung and missed.  for the 6th time.

we ended the day in the kissimmee river (near camp mack) and my dad picked up a 2lber on a River2Sea Bully Wa (hollow frog) and I caught a 1lber on a Spro Bronzeye.

we both caught 1 short fish each...mine was on a dipper, his was on a c-rig.

we weighed an entire 3lb5oz and had to buy chris and miles dinner.

it was crappy doing so bad, but we learned a bunch and were glad that our friends did so well.

one day i will teach bass that eating an annoying skinny dipper is the cool thing to do.  one day.
